What began as a conversation has evolved into something far more. We’re proud of our mission, proud of our achievements and even more excited for what’s ahead.

Why ADOi exists and the hearts and minds behind it

The Advanced Dog Ownership Initiative was not created in a boardroom. It began through honest conversations between professionals who care deeply about dogs and who were increasingly concerned about the patterns they were seeing across society.

We saw overwhelmed owners facing behaviours they did not fully understand. We saw dogs placed in homes that did not match their temperament or needs. We saw families struggling…not from a lack of love, but from a lack of clear, consistent guidance. We saw an industry rich in opinion, yet fragmented in approach.

Too often, dogs were labelled as the problem when the real issue lay elsewhere. Often in misinformation, poor preparation, or systems that failed long before behaviour became visible.

As dog specialists and just as importantly, as dog owners and passionate dog lovers, we found ourselves increasingly concerned. Our conversations kept returning to the same troubling issues: the sharp rise in dog bites and dog-related fatalities, and the growing number of dogs entering rescue centres or being lost to behavioural euthanasia.

  • From those conversations came a shared conviction:
Dogs deserve better. People deserve better.

That conviction became action. That action became ADOi.

At the centre of ADOi is a simple, but powerful belief: If we want better outcomes for dogs, we must first better support the people responsible for them.

Our mission is not to criticise or overwhelm owners, but to equip them. Through education, clarity, and practical guidance, we provide the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate dog ownership responsibly regardless of breed, background, or behavioural complexity.

Dog ownership extends beyond obedience training. It involves welfare, temperament, environment, legislation, ethics, and the everyday realities of sharing life with another species. ADOi exists to support this broader, more responsible standard.

  • Our founders bring decades of hands-on experience across training, behavioural work, temperament assessment, welfare and rescue, and real-world handling. Across all facets of the industry from operational working dogs to imported street dogs and all in between, they have worked alongside anxious owners, supported difficult cases, witnessed meaningful transformations, and seen first-hand the consequences of inconsistent or inadequate guidance.

They also recognised a growing divide within the dog world which is one that often left owners confused and unsupported and put dogs in awful situations.

They believed education was the path forward and they chose to build it.

  • Our philosophy is clear:

Understand the dog and educate the person bringing them together with compassion, competence, and responsibility.

We look beyond surface-level obedience to consider temperament, welfare, law, ethics, and the practical realities of everyday life. We advocate for positive training methods, clear communication, appropriate boundaries, and fair, informed handling.

We do not expect perfection. We expect accountability, willingness to learn, and a commitment to doing right by the dog and for society.

  • The dog industry can be passionate and, at times, divided. Dogs, however, are not concerned with ideology — they are affected only by how we show up for them.

ADOi is committed to collaboration over conflict. Meaningful change requires community, shared standards, and professional unity. We are not here to add another voice to the noise; we are here to elevate the standard and bring people together around responsible, informed ownership. This is about dogs, not ego’s.

Above all, we believe in doing what is right for the dog and the owner standing in front of us.

Knowledgeable, ethical, and accountable educators create confident, capable owners. Confident, capable owners raise stable, well-managed and understood dogs. The foundation of meaningful change is education.

  • ADOi exists to create tangible, lasting improvements in the lives of dogs and the people who care for them not through division or judgement, but through knowledge, compassion, and professional leadership.

    We are here to guide.
    We are here to support.
And we are here because dogs deserve a world where they are understood, protected, and given every opportunity to live safe, fulfilled lives.

With the right standards and the right people that future is entirely possible.

  • We do not subscribe to specific training or behavioural methodologies or ideologies. Our aim is not to contribute to divisions within the dog training industry, but to work in the best interests of dogs, their owners, and society as a whole.
We simply ask that you embrace our ethos by supporting high standards of UK canine welfare and promoting responsible dog ownership. Dogs are at the heart of everything we do, as are the people who care for them.
If you share our commitment to improving dog ownership, enhancing the experience of walking dogs in public spaces, and raising standards through ethical, realistic, and practical approaches to real-world dog ownership, we would be delighted to hear from you.
